Haere Mai and Welcome to Prestons Preschool
Your child’s new home away from home.
Our Philosophy
At Prestons Preschool, we value a warm, nurturing environment
where everyone feels welcomed and respected. We strive to work in
collaborative relationships and partnerships with whānau and value
the importance of linking home and centre life as we recognise that
learning begins at home.
We act with love, care and kindness as a foundation for our place
(manaakitanga) and promote fun, spontaneous laughter and joy for
ourselves and others. We value partnerships by actively engaging
with parents, whānau and the wider community, ensuring we respect
their beliefs, culture and aspirations. Respect for diversity and the
celebration of uniqueness and culture are features of our approach
as we nurture every child to know that they are competent and
capable.
We believe in the value of a home-like environment for learning, and
we view the environment (places and things) as a third teacher and
support the freedom for children to explore and grow at their own
pace. We consider our play space as a platform for holistic and
active learning therefore, we plan to provide a natural, responsive
and creative setting.
Fun and learning are woven throughout our curriculum, and we strive
to make our preschool a home away from home. Play and freedom to
move, wonder, curiosity, and discovery are the heart of our
curriculum. We follow interests, engage in meaningful real-life
experiences, risk and challenge elements, and investigate at a
where everyone feels welcomed and respected. We strive to work in
